In the month of August, the Jose Cisneros Cielo Vista Branch Library held our annual Candy Count competition. By checking out five books, children got a chance to guess how many Hershey’s Kisses were in a large glass jar displayed at the circulation desk. The child who came closest to the number of Kisses in the jar, won the entire jar of chocolates.
The exact number was kept under high security all month by our branch manager. Finally, at the Force Friday celebration, the number was revealed. There were 617 Kisses in the jar, and two children guessed 630 (the closest guess).
A game of Paper, Rock, Scissors decided the winner of the jar, but the other top-guesser didn’t go home empty-handed. She won a large bag of Hershey’s Kisses. It was also a win for the library, as the number of children’s books checked out increased significantly as a result of the contest.
